Darius Johnson

Board Member

Darius Johnson is a scholar-practitioner focused on public history, historic preservation, community development, and philanthropy. His efforts as a American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Digital Justice Fellow and The National Trust for Historic PreservationĀ Mildred Colodny Diversity Scholar are driven by his desire to help strengthen and sustain communities by drawing upon the intersections of cultural heritage, land use, and storytelling. AtĀ Washington Collegeā€™s Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, Darius works with faculty, staff, students, and community members to develop the next phase ofĀ Chesapeake Heartland: An African American Humanities ProjectĀ and expand the Projectā€™s digital archive through collaborative digital repatriation partnerships with theĀ Maryland State Archives, Maryland Center for History and Culture (MCHC), and American Antiquarian Society. A proudĀ Kent County Public Schools and Washington College graduate, he also currently serves as the Chesapeake CollegeĀ Foundation Board of Directors President and a Maryland Historical TrustĀ Trustee.
